How to Add DNS Records in Zibster

Overview

DNS records control how your domain connects to your website, email provider, domain verification tools, and other online services. If your domain is managed through Zibster, you can add or update DNS records from your Zibster account when your domain is eligible for DNS management.

This guide explains how to confirm whether your domain can be managed in Zibster, open the DNS Zone Editor, add a new DNS record, and save your changes. These steps can be used for common DNS record types such as A, CNAME, MX, TXT, and SRV records.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, your domain must meet both requirements below:

• Your account must be using the current Zibster platform.
• Your domain must be using Zibster AWS Route 53 name servers.

If your domain is still pointed to legacy Rackspace name servers or third-party name servers, changes made in the Zibster DNS Zone Editor will not affect your live DNS.

You should also have the exact DNS record details from your domain provider, email provider, verification tool, or third-party service before making changes. Incorrect DNS records can affect your website, email delivery, domain verification, or connected services.

Common DNS Record Types

You may need to add or update DNS records when connecting your domain to another service, verifying domain ownership, or setting up email authentication.

Common DNS record types include:

• A Record: Points your domain or subdomain to a specific IP address.
• CNAME: Points one domain name or subdomain to another domain name.
• MX Record: Directs email for your domain to the correct mail server.
• TXT Record: Used for domain verification and email authentication.
• SPF: A type of TXT record used to help verify which mail servers can send email for your domain.
• DKIM: A type of TXT record used to help authenticate outgoing email.
• DMARC: A type of TXT record used to help protect your domain from email spoofing.
• SRV Record: Used for advanced services such as VoIP or messaging platforms.

STEP ONE

Log in to your Zibster account and click DOMAINS in the left-side menu.

This opens your Domains control panel, where you can manage domain settings for domains connected to your Zibster account.

STEP TWO

Review the Main Domain section for your domain.

Your Main Domain section helps you confirm whether the domain is set up for DNS management through Zibster. The MANAGE DNS option only applies when your domain is using Zibster AWS Route 53 name servers.

If your domain is pointed to legacy Rackspace name servers or third-party name servers, DNS records added in Zibster will not apply to your live domain.

STEP THREE

Locate the domain you want to update, then click MANAGE DNS next to the domain name.

This opens the DNS Zone Editor for that domain.

If you do not see the MANAGE DNS option, your domain may not be using Zibster AWS Route 53 name servers.

STEP FOUR

Click the NEW DNS RECORD button.

Select the type of DNS record you need to add. The record type you choose should match the instructions provided by your third-party service, email provider, domain provider, or verification tool.

Be careful when adding or editing DNS records. Incorrect DNS settings can interrupt your website, email delivery, domain verification, or connected services.

FINAL STEP

Enter the DNS record details into the required fields for the record type you selected, then click SAVE CHANGES.

When entering the host name, your domain name is already included by the system. This means you usually do not need to type your full domain name into the host name field.

For example, if you are adding a record for example.yourdomain.com, you may only need to enter example as the host name.

Correct: example.yourdomain.com
Incorrect: example.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com

If you add a record and see your domain listed twice, the record was not entered correctly. Delete the incorrect record and add it again using the correct host name format.

Your DNS record will be added to the domain’s DNS zone. Most DNS updates begin working within a few minutes, but full DNS propagation across the internet can take up to 48 hours.

Additional Options / Helpful Notes

DNS record values must be entered exactly as provided by your third-party service, email provider, domain provider, or verification tool. This may include specific host names, values, priorities, or destination addresses.

Some providers refer to the host name as Name, Host, or Alias. The value may also be called Points To, Destination, Answer, or Record Value. Use the instructions from your provider as your source of truth when entering DNS details.

If you are setting up email authentication, your provider may ask you to add SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records. These are usually added as TXT records.

Avoid deleting or changing existing A, CNAME, MX, or TXT records unless you know what they control. Existing records may be required for your website, email, domain verification, or connected services.

Some services require you to add a new record, while others require you to update an existing record. Before adding a new record, check whether a similar record already exists for the same host or name.

If you are unsure what to enter, contact Zibster Support before saving changes. The Support Team can help review the record information and make sure it is entered in the correct format.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why do I not see the MANAGE DNS option?

The MANAGE DNS option only applies when your domain is using Zibster AWS Route 53 name servers.

If your domain is still using legacy Rackspace name servers or pointed to third-party name servers, DNS management may not be available from your Zibster account.

I added DNS records, but they are not validating. What should I check?

Check the WHOIS information for your domain and confirm that your domain is pointed to the name servers shown in your Zibster DNS settings.

If your domain is pointed to Rackspace name servers or third-party name servers, the records added in the Zibster DNS Zone Editor will not apply to your live DNS.

You should also review the host name field for the record you added. If your domain appears twice in the final record, delete the record and add it again using only the required host name or subdomain value.

How long do DNS changes take?

Many DNS updates begin working within a few minutes. However, full DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours depending on internet service providers, DNS caching, and the type of record changed.

Can incorrect DNS records affect my website or email?

Yes. Incorrect DNS records can prevent your website from loading, stop email from being delivered, or interfere with connected third-party services. Only add or update DNS records when you have clear instructions from a trusted provider.

Can Zibster help me add DNS records?

Yes. If you are not sure what to enter, Zibster Support can help you review the DNS instructions from your provider and add the records correctly.
