How to Create a Percentage Discount Coupon in Zibster ECommerce
Overview
Zibster ECommerce lets you create percentage discount coupon codes for an entire order, a single item, or a group of items. You can control when the coupon is available, which items qualify, and how much of a percentage discount your customer receives.
Percentage Discount coupons can be used with eligible Products and Services purchased through Zibster ECommerce. They can also be used with Scheduler Services when the service is configured to collect payment through checkout.
This guide walks you through creating each type of Percentage Discount coupon and explains the available settings.
Prerequisites
Before creating a Percentage Discount coupon, make sure the Products, Services, or eligible Scheduler Services you want to discount are already configured in your Zibster account.
Coupons are entered during checkout and cannot be used with Form Payments or Invoices.
STEP ONE
Log into your Zibster account and click ECOMMERCE in the left-side menu.
This opens the ECommerce Dashboard, where you can manage Products, Services, orders, payment settings, coupons, and other ECommerce features.
STEP TWO
Mouse over PAYMENT at the top of the ECommerce Dashboard, then click COUPONS from the drop-down menu.
This opens the Coupons area where you can create and manage coupon codes.
STEP THREE
Click NEW COUPON.
Zibster displays the available coupon categories and coupon types.
STEP FOUR
Under Percentage Discounts, click the coupon type you want to create:
- % Off Total Order
- % Off Single Item
- % Off Group of Items
Click CONTINUE at the bottom of the screen.
FINAL STEP
Complete the settings for the Percentage Discount coupon you selected using the appropriate section below.
After you have entered the required settings and any applicable item or quantity requirements, click CREATE COUPON.
Your coupon will be available according to the Discount Code, Begin Date, Expiration Date, Discount Amount, and any additional requirements you configured.
Percentage Discount Coupon Types
Zibster includes three types of Percentage Discount coupons. The option you choose determines whether the discount applies to an order, one qualifying item, or a group of qualifying items.
% Off Total Order
Use % Off Total Order when you want to apply a percentage discount to an entire qualifying order.
Configure the following settings:

Discount Code — Required. Enter the coupon code your customer will enter at checkout.

Description — Optional. Add an internal description to help you identify the promotion.

Begin Date — Required. Set the date the coupon becomes available.

Expiration Date — Required. Set the date the coupon expires.

Max Number of Uses — Optional. Set the maximum number of times the coupon can be used.

Discount Amount — Required. Enter the percentage discount as a whole number.

Min Order Price — Optional. Set the minimum order total required to use the coupon.

Max Order Price — Optional. Set the maximum qualifying order total.
When your settings are complete, click CREATE COUPON.
For example, to offer 20% off qualifying orders of $200 or more, enter 20 for the Discount Amount and $200 for the Min Order Price.
% Off Single Item
Use % Off Single Item when you want the percentage discount to apply to one qualifying item.
Configure the following settings:

After entering the coupon settings, click Next Choose Item.
Under Select the items that will be discounted, choose one of the following:

Any Item — Allows any eligible item to qualify.

Any Item in a Specific Category — Select the Item Type in the first drop-down menu and the Item Category in the second drop-down menu.

Specific Items — Select the Item Type in the first drop-down menu, the Category in the second drop-down menu, and the Items in the third drop-down menu.
You can use the available All options when appropriate or narrow the coupon to specific categories or individual items.
When your item selection is complete, click CREATE COUPON.
For example, you could create a coupon that gives customers 15% off one qualifying Product or Service.
% Off Group of Items
Use % Off Group of Items when you want the percentage discount to apply to multiple qualifying items.
Configure the following settings:

After entering the coupon settings, click Next Choose Items.
Under Select the items that will be discounted, choose:

Any Item

Specific Items
For Any Item in a Specific Category, select the Item Type in the first drop-down menu and the Item Category in the second.
For Specific Items, select the Item Type in the first drop-down menu, the Category in the second drop-down menu, and the Items in the third drop-down menu.
You can also configure:

Minimum Quantity to Apply Discount to — Enter the minimum number of qualifying items required for the discount.

Maximum Quantity to Apply Discount to — Enter the maximum number of qualifying items the discount should apply to.
When your settings are complete, click CREATE COUPON.
For example, you could create a promotion that gives customers 10% off when they purchase at least five qualifying Products or Services.
How to Enter the Percentage Discount
Enter the Discount Amount as a whole number.
For example:
- Enter 7 for a 7% discount.
- Enter 15 for a 15% discount.
- Enter 20 for a 20% discount.
Do not enter a decimal such as .07 for 7% or .20 for 20%.
Where Percentage Discount Coupons Can Be Used
Percentage Discount coupons can be configured for eligible purchases involving:
- Products
- Services
- Scheduler Services that are configured to collect payment through checkout
Scheduler Services can be configured for booking only or for booking and payment. A coupon only applies when the Scheduler Service sends the customer through the checkout process to collect payment.
Percentage Discount coupons cannot be used with Form Payments or Invoices.
Choosing the Right Percentage Discount Coupon
Choose % Off Total Order when you want to discount the customer's entire qualifying purchase. This is also the option to use when you want to require a minimum or maximum order amount.
Choose % Off Single Item when only one qualifying Product or Service should receive the percentage discount.
Choose % Off Group of Items when multiple qualifying Products or Services should receive the discount and you want to control the minimum or maximum quantity included in the promotion.
What Your Customer Sees at Checkout
When a customer reaches an eligible Zibster checkout, they can enter the coupon code you created.
If the order meets the coupon requirements, the percentage discount is applied to the qualifying order or items and the checkout total updates accordingly.
Only one coupon code can be applied to an order.
Helpful Notes
- Discount Code, Begin Date, Expiration Date, and Discount Amount are required for all Percentage Discount coupons.
- Description and Max Number of Uses are optional.
- Enter Percentage Discounts as whole numbers, such as 10 for 10%, not .10.
- % Off Total Order includes optional Min Order Price and Max Order Price settings.
- % Off Single Item and % Off Group of Items allow you to control which items qualify.
- % Off Group of Items also includes minimum and maximum quantity settings.
- Only one coupon code can be applied to an order.
- Scheduler Services must be configured to collect payment through checkout for a coupon to apply.
- Coupons cannot be used with Form Payments or Invoices.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
Why isn't my Percentage Discount coupon working?
Check the Begin Date, Expiration Date, qualifying items, Max Number of Uses, and any order-price or quantity requirements you configured.
The customer's purchase must meet all requirements of the coupon before the discount can apply.
How do I enter a 20% discount?
Enter 20 in the Discount Amount field. Do not enter .20.
What is the difference between % Off Single Item and % Off Group of Items?
% Off Single Item applies the percentage discount to one qualifying item.
% Off Group of Items is designed for multiple qualifying items and includes Minimum Quantity to Apply Discount to and Maximum Quantity to Apply Discount to settings.
Can I create a Percentage Discount coupon for one specific Product or Service?
Yes. Use % Off Single Item or % Off Group of Items, then choose Specific Items during the item-selection process.
Can I apply a Percentage Discount coupon to an entire category?
Yes. Choose Any Item in a Specific Category, then select the appropriate Item Type and Item Category.
Can I require a minimum order amount?
Yes. Use % Off Total Order and enter the qualifying amount in the Min Order Price field.
Can I limit how many items receive a group discount?
Yes. % Off Group of Items includes Minimum Quantity to Apply Discount to and Maximum Quantity to Apply Discount to settings.
Can customers use more than one coupon on the same order?
No. Only one coupon code can be applied to an order.
Can I use a coupon with a Scheduler Service?
Yes, when the Scheduler Service is configured to collect payment through checkout. Booking-only Scheduler Services do not have a checkout transaction where a coupon can be entered.
Can Percentage Discount coupons be used with Form Payments or Invoices?
No. Coupons cannot be applied to Form Payments or Invoices.
