E-Commerce: Business Tips & Recommendations

Settings up an E-Commerce site can be overwhelming, but once you have it all set up using our getting started guide and you're doing your final tweaks, below are some recommendations to keep in mind.

Make sure to complete the SETTINGS section of your E-Commerce Control Panel. We recommend adding your email address to the GENERAL SETTINGS in order to receive order notification emails as well as adding your logo and business information to the RECEIPT SETTINGS section.

Do a test order before making the store available to customers. After you've set up everything, including shipping, taxes, and credit card merchant, we highly recommend completing a test order yourself. The main reason for this is to make sure you understand how the ordering process works and to make sure your merchant processes payment correctly. When your store is live and customers are making purchases, they will ask you if they have questions, and you'll want to know the answers right away. You may also come across something that isn't set up the way you intended, and you'll have a chance to change it before customers see it.

Branding, branding, branding. Make sure you have your Builder set up to reflect your brand and your main website so it is obvious who you are. Use the same logo, fonts, colors, and backgrounds. You want your customer's experience to feel seamless across all platforms. Another piece of this is to add your logo to your receipt so that your brand recognition continues even into your customers' post-purchase experience.

Add images whenever possible. When setting up your products, services, and packages, it is important to include an image or images that describe that offering. It makes it much easier to sell the item if the customer has a visual of exactly what they are getting, so we recommend adding images to your store whenever possible.

Get Organized. Organize your offerings into categories as appropriate. This will make it much easier for your customers to navigate through your website and find the items they are looking for without having to search through other items they are not interested in. For example, if you have canvas prints, metal prints, jewelry, and novelty items in your Store, it would be better to set up a category for each type of product rather than having one product category with all the different options of each category in it.
