How Canonical Tags Work with Blog Posts on Zibster
When you publish blog posts on your Zibster website, those posts can sometimes appear under different web addresses (URLs)—especially if you’re using blog blocks on different pages. But don’t worry! Zibster automatically handles this for you using canonical tags, which help search engines focus on the right version of your post.
What Are Canonical Tags?
A canonical tag is a small piece of code that tells search engines which version of a page is the “main” one. This is important because:
- ✅ It prevents duplicate content issues
- ✅ It helps improve your SEO
- ✅ It tells search engines which page to show in search results
How It Works with Blog Posts
When you publish a blog post on Zibster, the system automatically sets the canonical URL—so search engines know exactly which version to index.
You can view this version by clicking Preview in the upper-left corner of the blog post editor. The canonical URL will look like this:
https://www.yourdomain.com/blog-post/blog-title
This is the version that Google and other search engines will prioritize.
What About Other Blog URLs?
If you’ve added a Blog Block to a page (like a custom blog landing page), you might see a different URL when clicking on a post. For example:
https://www.yourdomain.com/pagename/blog/blog-title
This is an alternate URL. It’s perfectly normal and works just fine—but it’s not the version that search engines will index. Zibster’s canonical tag tells Google to focus on the main blog URL instead.
Why This Is Totally Fine
In Google Search Console, you might see a message like:
🔎 “Alternate Page with Proper Canonical Tag”
That just means Google found more than one version of the blog post—but it’s using the correct one. There’s no SEO penalty, and no action needed from you.
In Summary
- Your blog posts might appear at more than one URL
- Zibster automatically sets the correct canonical tag
- Search engines will index the main version
- You don’t need to change or fix anything
This system keeps your blog SEO-friendly and well-organized—right out of the box!
