How to Ask for Google Reviews (and Why It Matters)

Looking to boost your credibility online? Asking for Google reviews is one of the most powerful—and free—ways to build trust and visibility for your business. Even though it can feel awkward at first, most happy customers are glad to leave a review when you make it easy for them!

Here are two of the most effective ways to ask for reviews, plus step-by-step instructions to help you collect and share them with confidence.

Please Note:

We are not affiliated with Google or the Google Business Profile platform. While we’re happy to help you create pages and campaigns on your Zibster site, we can’t assist with technical issues or account questions related to your Google Business Profile.

WHY ASKING FOR REVIEWS IS WORTH IT

Many business owners feel uncomfortable asking for reviews—but don’t! Most customers won’t leave a review unless they’re asked, even if they loved working with you.

Google reviews help:

  • Improve your local SEO
  • Build trust with potential clients
  • Give you valuable feedback
  • Increase visibility in search results

So don’t be shy—ask!

TWO EFFECTIVE WAYS TO ASK FOR GOOGLE REVIEWS

1. Keep it Personal and Simple

A good old-fashioned face-to-face (or phone) request still works wonders.

When a customer shares positive feedback:

  • Thank them!
  • Ask if they’d be willing to leave a review on your Google Business page.
  • Make it easy—offer to send them a direct link or even pull it up on their phone while chatting.

TIP: You can say something like,
"That means a lot to hear! Would you mind leaving a quick review on Google? It really helps others find me!"

2. Use a Landing Page to Ask for Reviews

If you use Zibster’s Website Builder, you can create a branded landing page that links directly to your Google review form.

This method is:

  • Professional – matches your brand
  • Visual – easier for clients to engage with
  • Convenient – works across all devices

Once you’ve built your page, share the link via:

  • Social media (like Facebook)
  • Individual client emails
  • Mass email campaigns

You can even embed it as a button on your website!

HOW TO FIND YOUR GOOGLE REVIEW LINK

To direct clients to your review form, you’ll need your Google Place ID. Here’s how to find it:

  • Go to the Google PlaceID Finder

  • In the map search bar, enter your business name.

  • Click your listing when it appears.
  • Copy the Place ID Google provides.

  • Paste that ID at the end of this link format:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=PASTE_PLACE_ID_HERE

🔗 Copy and replace PASTE_PLACE_ID_HERE with your actual Place ID from Google’s Place ID Finder.
Example result:
https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJX8aJ2joZU4gRDKwBm99cCdc

That’s your direct review link! Add it as a button on your website, landing page, or in an email.

💡 PRO TIPS TO GET MORE REVIEWS

✅ Make it sound quick and easy

Most people don’t realize it takes just 30 seconds to leave a review. Let them know it’s simple!

Sample message:
"It only takes a moment, and it really helps us grow—thank you!"

Offer incentives (without influencing the review content)

You can’t ask for positive reviews specifically, but you can encourage reviews by offering a small reward after a review is submitted.

Examples:

  • A chance to be featured in a blog or social media post
  • Entry into a monthly drawing
  • Small thank-you gift or coupon

Add a button to your website

Once you have your direct review link, consider adding a “Leave a Review” button on your Reviews page or in your site footer for easy access.

Sharing Your Review Link

You can share your review page through:

  • Social Media

  • Individual Emails
Customize the message to fit your voice and link to your review page.
  • Mass Emails
Use your Zibster Marketing tools to send a campaign to your client list and track performance. You get 10,000 free marketing emails per month (with upgrade options if you need more)!
