How to Resend an Email Campaign to Contacts Who Didn’t Open It

Overview

Zibster Marketing lets you review email campaign tracking so you can see which contacts opened your campaign. If you want to follow up only with contacts who did not open the original email, you can use your campaign tracking data and contact tags to exclude the contacts who already opened it.

This guide walks you through how to export the list of contacts who opened your campaign, import those contacts back into Zibster Marketing with a new tag, and resend your campaign while excluding that tag. This allows your follow-up campaign to send only to contacts who did not open the previous campaign.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

Sent the original email campaign.

Allowed enough time for contacts to open the email.

Access to the MARKETING section in your Zibster account.

Access to the tracking report for the campaign you want to resend.

STEP ONE

Log in to your Zibster account and click MARKETING in the left-side menu.

This opens your Marketing Dashboard, where you can create email campaigns, manage contacts, review tracking, and view campaign performance.

Open the tracking report for the email campaign you want to resend, then export the list of contacts who opened the campaign.

STEP TWO

After exporting your opened contacts, import that list back into your Zibster Marketing contacts.

During the import process, apply a new tag that clearly identifies these contacts as people who opened the original campaign.

Use a tag name that matches the campaign, such as:

Spring Mini Sessions Opened

2026 Senior Promo Opened

Holiday Sale Opened

Using a specific tag name makes it easier to recognize the tag when you build your resend audience.

STEP THREE

Return to the email campaign you previously sent and choose the option to resend that same campaign.

Use the same original contact list or audience you selected when the campaign was first sent.

Before resending, review the campaign content to make sure all details are still accurate. Check dates, deadlines, pricing, links, promotion details, and any time-sensitive information.

FINAL STEP

When choosing the recipients for the resend, exclude the tag you created for contacts who already opened the previous campaign.

For example, if your tag is Spring Mini Sessions Opened, exclude that tag from the recipient selection.

This sends the campaign to the original audience while leaving out the contacts who already opened it. Once your recipient settings are correct, resend the campaign.

Additional Options and Helpful Notes

You may want to update the subject line before resending your campaign. A different subject line can help your follow-up email stand out to contacts who missed or skipped the first message.

This workflow is especially helpful for:

Limited-time promotions

Mini session announcements

Booking reminders

Product sales

Deadline reminders

Event updates

Only resend a campaign when the message is still relevant. Sending too many repeat emails can lead to lower engagement or more unsubscribes.

The Zibster Website Package includes 10,000 marketing emails each month. Resent campaigns count toward your monthly marketing email total.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Why do I need to export and import the contacts who opened the campaign?

Exporting and importing the opened contacts lets you create a tag for them. Once those contacts are tagged, you can exclude that tag from your resend campaign so the email only goes to contacts who did not open the original campaign.

Should I resend the exact same campaign?

You can resend the same campaign, but it is often helpful to update the subject line or preview text. This gives the email a fresh chance to catch your contacts’ attention.

You should also review the campaign content before resending it to make sure dates, links, offers, and deadlines are still accurate.

Will this resend the campaign to people who unsubscribed?

No. Contacts who have unsubscribed from your marketing emails will not receive future marketing campaigns.

Will resending the campaign count toward my monthly email total?

Yes. Resent campaigns count toward your monthly marketing email total. The Zibster Website Package includes 10,000 marketing emails each month.

Can I use this same process for future campaigns?

Yes. You can repeat this workflow any time you want to resend a campaign only to contacts who did not open the original email.

What kind of tag name should I use?

Use a tag name that clearly connects the opened contacts to the original campaign. For example, if the campaign was for a spring promotion, a tag like Spring Promo Opened or Spring Mini Sessions Opened will be easier to identify later.
