What to Expect When Updating Your Domain Name Servers (Preview & Propagation Impacts)
When you request a domain setup for your Zibster website, your temporary preview link will be replaced by your actual domain name. During this transition, there are a few important things to understand about how your preview link and internet propagation work.
STEP ONE
Know What Happens to Your Preview Link
Before your domain is connected, Zibster provides a temporary preview link so you can view your website online. Once your domain setup request is processed:
-
The preview link will no longer be active.
-
Your site will be connected to your actual domain name.
-
Your site will not display until your name servers are updated and your SSL certificate is generated.
All of your work remains safely saved in your account. If you’re not ready to launch, our support team can move your site back to a temporary domain so your preview link will work again.
STEP TWO
Understand Propagation and Access Delays
After you update your name servers, the changes must spread across the internet. This process is called propagation and typically takes 24–48 hours to complete.
During propagation, you and your visitors may:
-
See a connection failure or an error message saying the site cannot be reached
-
Still see the old version of your site on your previous host
-
Experience brief email downtime (if you use domain-based email)
These temporary issues are normal and will resolve automatically once propagation is complete.
STEP THREE
Follow Best Practices for a Smooth Transition
-
Plan Ahead: Make DNS updates during a time of lower website traffic.
-
Complete Site Updates First: Finalize your design and content before requesting a domain setup.
-
Communicate Clearly: Let clients know there may be a short downtime period.
-
Be Patient: Propagation delays are standard and resolve automatically.
FINAL STEP
Launch Your Site with Confidence
Once your name servers are updated and propagation finishes, your Zibster website will display live on your domain with full SSL protection.
