Gift Card Rules and Limitations in Zibster
Gift Cards in Zibster allow customers to apply prepaid balances toward eligible purchases made through your website checkout. While Gift Cards are flexible, there are specific rules that determine where and how they can be used. This article explains supported use cases, limitations, and important restrictions so you can confidently manage Gift Cards and set clear expectations for your customers.
Understanding these rules helps prevent checkout confusion and ensures Gift Cards are applied correctly.
Where Gift Cards Can Be Used
Gift Cards can be applied during the standard Zibster checkout process for purchases made through:
-
Your Zibster website checkout
-
Products and Services purchased online
-
Scheduler bookings that use Zibster checkout
Gift Cards are entered and applied on the payment screen during checkout, alongside your enabled merchant payment options.
Where Gift Cards Cannot Be Used
Gift Cards cannot be applied in the following situations:
-
Invoices
-
Forms
-
Payments collected outside of your Zibster account
If a transaction does not go through the Zibster checkout flow, Gift Cards are not supported.
How Gift Card Balances Are Applied
When a customer enters a valid Gift Card during checkout:
-
The available balance is applied to the order total
-
If the Gift Card balance is less than the order total, the remaining balance must be paid using another payment method
-
If the Gift Card balance is more than the order total, the unused amount remains on the Gift Card for future use
Gift Cards can be reused until the balance reaches zero.
Using Gift Cards With Discounts and Promotions
Gift Cards can be used together with:
-
Coupons
-
Sales or promotional pricing
Gift Cards function as a payment method, not a discount. Any coupons or promotions are applied first, and the Gift Card is applied to the remaining balance.
Expiration, Refunds, and Cash Value
-
Gift Cards do not expire by default
-
Gift Card balances cannot be redeemed for cash
If a Gift Card was created in error or needs adjustment, you can edit the amount or delete the Gift Card before it is used.
Account and Usage Limitations
-
Customers can use one Gift Card per order
-
Customers do not need an account to use a Gift Card
-
Customers must enter the correct Gift Card code during checkout
-
Lost Gift Card emails can be re-sent from your Zibster control panel
