How to Add an Additional Shipping Charge to a Product in Zibster ECommerce
Overview
Some products cost more to package, handle, or deliver than your standard shipping rate covers. In Zibster ECommerce, you can add an ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST to an individual product.
This charge works with a shipping method at checkout. This guide explains how to add the charge and choose whether a shipping method includes it.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have a shipping method available at checkout. A product’s additional shipping cost cannot serve as a shipping method by itself. If you need to set one up, see How to Create a Shipping Method in Zibster
STEP ONE
Log in to your Zibster account and click ECOMMERCE in the left-side menu.
STEP TWO
Hover over SELL ONLINE at the top of the ECommerce Dashboard, then click PRODUCTS in the dropdown menu.
STEP THREE
Click the product’s name in the NAME column to open its settings. You can use the search field above the product list to find it by name.
To set up a new product, click NEW PRODUCT instead.
FINAL STEP
On the product’s DETAILS tab, select YES under CHARGE SHIPPING. Enter the extra amount you want to charge for each unit in ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST, then click SAVE CHANGES.
How Additional Shipping Costs Work
The additional cost can be added on top of the shipping method used for the order. For example, if the shipping method charges $10.00 and one product has a $5.00 additional shipping cost, the shipping total is $15.00 when that method includes additional shipping costs.
The charge applies to each unit purchased. If a customer buys two of the same product and its additional shipping cost is $5.00, the product adds $10.00 in additional shipping.
Choose Which Shipping Methods Include the Charge
Shipping methods have an EXCLUDE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COSTS setting:
- Select NO to include additional costs assigned to products.
- Select YES to exclude additional costs assigned to products.
For example, you can select YES for a Free In-Studio Pickup method if you do not want customers to pay a product’s additional shipping cost when they pick up their order.
If you do not charge a base shipping rate and only want to collect shipping for certain products, you can create a method with FLAT SHIPPING set to $0.00 and EXCLUDE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COSTS set to NO. The additional costs for applicable products can then be added to that method. See How to Create a Shipping Method in Zibster for instructions.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why isn’t the additional shipping cost appearing at checkout?
Confirm that CHARGE SHIPPING is set to YES, an amount is entered under ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST, and you clicked SAVE CHANGES. Then check that a shipping method is available at checkout and that its EXCLUDE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COSTS setting is NO.
Why is the shipping total higher than I expected?
The additional cost applies to each unit of the product and can be added on top of the shipping method’s charge. Check the quantity purchased and the amounts set on both the product and shipping method.
Why is the additional cost appearing with Free In-Studio Pickup?
Check the pickup method’s EXCLUDE ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COSTS setting. Select YES if you want pickup orders to exclude product-level shipping costs.
Can I change or remove the additional cost later?
Yes. Go to ECOMMERCE → SELL ONLINE → PRODUCTS, click the product’s name, and update ADDITIONAL SHIPPING COST on the DETAILS tab. Enter 0 to remove the extra charge, then click SAVE CHANGES.
