How to Create an A Record in Zibster
If your website is built on Zibster and your domain is using AWS Route 53 name servers, you can manage your DNS records directly from your account—including creating A records.
This gives you full control over your domain’s DNS settings, so you can make updates whenever needed—even outside of our regular support hours.
WHAT IS AN A RECORD?
An A record (short for "Address Record") tells the internet where your website lives by pointing your domain name to a specific IP address.
Think of it like updating your contact list—when someone types in your website address, the A record helps their browser find the correct “home” (your hosting server) to load your site. Without the correct A record, your website may not display properly or could appear offline.
Important Notes:
- This feature is only available if your name servers are pointed to Zibster’s Route 53 (AWS) system.
- If your domain is using legacy name servers at Rackspace, DNS editing will not be available in your account.

DNS Changes May Take Time
While most DNS updates take effect within a few minutes, it can take up to 48 hours for changes to fully propagate across the internet.
STEP ONE
Access Your DNS Records
- Log into your Zibster account.
- Click DOMAINS in the left-hand menu.
STEP TWO
Open the DNS Zone Editor
- Click the MANAGE DNS button next to your connected domain.
STEP THREE
Add a New A Record
- Click NEW DNS RECORD.
- From the list of record types, choose A Record.
STEP FOUR
Enter the A Record Details
You’ll need to enter:
- Name: Enter the subdomain you want to point. Use
@
to point the main domain (e.g., yourdomain.com), or usewww
if you want to point www.yourdomain.com. - Value: This is the IP address you want to connect your domain or subdomain to.
- TTL: This stands for “Time To Live.” It controls how often the record refreshes. The default setting is typically fine, so no need to change it.
When you're ready, click ADD DNS RECORD to save it.
DELETING AN A RECORD
Only delete an A record if you're sure it's no longer needed. Removing the wrong record could make your website or email stop working.
Deleted DNS records cannot be recovered and must be manually re-added if needed.
To delete an A record:
-
Go to DOMAINS and click MANAGE DNS.
-
Find the A record you want to remove.
-
Click DELETE next to the record and confirm.
Confirm the deletion.
