How to Create a CNAME Record in Zibster
If your domain is connected to Zibster using AWS Route 53 name servers, you can create and manage DNS records—including CNAME records—directly from your account.
This gives you full control over your domain’s DNS settings, so you can make changes whenever needed, even outside our regular support hours.
WHAT IS A CNAME RECORD?
A CNAME record (short for "Canonical Name") allows you to point one domain name to another.
This is commonly used when you want to:
- Point a subdomain like www.yourdomain.com to your main domain (yourdomain.com)
- Use a third-party service (like email marketing or client portals) that asks you to create a custom subdomain (e.g., app.yourdomain.com) and point it to a different web address
Think of it as a forwarding tool—it doesn’t point to an IP address, but instead to another domain name.
Important Notes:
- This feature is only available if your name servers are pointed to Zibster’s Route 53 (AWS) system.
- If your domain is using legacy name servers at Rackspace, DNS editing will not be available in your account.

DNS Changes May Take Time
While most DNS updates take effect within a few minutes, it can take up to 48 hours for changes to fully propagate across the internet.
STEP ONE
Access Your DNS Records
- Log into your Zibster account.
- Click DOMAINS in the left-hand menu.
STEP TWO
Open the DNS Zone Editor
- Click the MANAGE DNS button next to your connected domain.
STEP THREE
Add a New CNAME Record
- Click NEW DNS RECORD.
- From the list of record types, choose CNAME.
STEP FOUR
Enter the CNAME Record Details
You’ll need to enter:
- Name: This is the subdomain you want to point (for example,
www
orblog
). - Value: This is the domain name you’re pointing it to (for example,
yourdomain.com
orexample.service.com
). - TTL: This stands for “Time To Live.” It controls how often the record updates. You can leave this at the default setting.
When you’re ready, click ADD DNS RECORD to save your changes.
DELETING A CNAME RECORD
Deleted DNS records cannot be recovered and must be manually re-added if needed.
If you ever need to remove a CNAME record:
-
Go to DOMAINS > MANAGE DNS.
-
Locate the CNAME record you want to delete.
-
Click DELETE next to the entry and confirm.
⚠️ Be careful—deleting a DNS record may impact your website, email, or other connected services.
Confirm the deletion.
