How to Use Your Existing Domain Name with Zibster
Already have a domain name you purchased elsewhere? No problem! You can easily connect it to your Zibster website when you’re ready to go live.
To get started, you’ll need access to your domain’s settings so you can point it to Zibster. This guide walks you through how to request your custom name servers so you can connect your domain to your Zibster site.

Before You Begin
We recommend completing your website’s design and layout first.
Once your domain setup begins, you’ll temporarily lose access to your website builder for about 24–48 hours while your domain updates and your SSL certificate activates. After that, your builder and website will be fully accessible again.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
- We recommend completing your website layout and design prior to setting up your domain name. During your domain setup process, you'll temporarily lose access to your website builder while the domain updates to point to your Zibster account. This generally takes 24-48 hours, and once your domain propagates and your SSL encryption goes live, you'll have access to your website builder and content restored.
- Changing your name servers does not transfer your domain registration. You must continue managing your domain with your current registrar unless you transfer the domain registration to your Zibster account.
STEP ONE
Log In and Go to Domains
- Log into your Zibster account.
- Click on DOMAINS in the left-side menu.
STEP TWO
Select "Use Your Existing Domain"
- Click the green button to start the setup process for a domain name you already own.
STEP THREE
Enter Your Domain and Email Details
- Type in your existing domain name.
- Answer the question about whether you use branded email (like yourname@yourdomain.com).
If You Selected YES for Branded Email:
You’ll be asked to choose your current email provider:
- Google Workspace
- GoDaddy
- Office 365
- Rackspace
- Network Solutions
- Other (you’ll enter your provider’s name)
📧 Why we ask: We want to make sure your email stays up and running during the domain transfer.
You’ll also provide an alternate contact email so we can reach you with your name server info.
⚠️ Important:
Don’t update your domain’s name servers until we’ve added your email’s MX records to our servers.
If you update early, your email may go down temporarily. Once everything is set, your email will be restored within 2–24 hours.

You’re All Set!
Once you submit your request:
- You’ll get a confirmation message.
- A domain specialist will follow up via email within 24 business hours with your 4 unique name servers and steps to update your domain.
What to Expect After Setup
- Once you update your name servers, your domain will begin pointing to your Zibster website.
- If you have existing email accounts tied to your domain, they may be temporarily unavailable during the update. Everything should return to normal once the domain finishes propagating.
