How to Manage Your DNS Records in Zibster
Overview
If your domain is using Zibster’s AWS Route 53 name servers, you can manage supported DNS records directly from your Zibster account. DNS records control important domain services, including where your website loads, how your email works, and how third-party tools verify or connect to your domain.
This guide explains how to open your DNS settings in Zibster, add a new DNS record, and delete a DNS record when needed.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure your domain is using Zibster’s AWS Route 53 name servers.
DNS management is only available for domains using Zibster’s Route 53 name servers. If your domain is using legacy name servers or third-party name servers, the Manage DNS option may not be available in your Zibster account.
If your domain is using legacy name servers, you can upgrade to Route 53 so you can manage supported DNS records directly inside Zibster.
DNS changes can affect your website, email, domain verification, and third-party services. Only make DNS changes if you know what needs to be updated or you have instructions from a trusted provider.
DNS Changes May Take Time
Most DNS updates begin working within a few minutes. However, full DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours across the internet.
During propagation, some visitors or services may still see the previous DNS settings while others see the new settings.
Important Notes:
- This feature is only available if your name servers are pointed to Zibster’s Route 53 (AWS) system.
- If your domain is using legacy name servers, DNS editing will not be available in your account.
Need to switch to Route 53? Learn how to upgrade your name servers »
STEP ONE
Log in to your Zibster account and click DOMAINS in the left-side menu.
This opens the Domains section, where you can view and manage domains connected to your Zibster account.
STEP TWO
Find the domain you want to update and click MANAGE DNS.
This opens the DNS Zone Editor for that domain.
If you do not see the Manage DNS option, your domain may not be using Zibster’s AWS Route 53 name servers.
STEP THREE
Click NEW DNS RECORD.
Choose the type of DNS record you want to add.
Zibster supports the following DNS record types:
- A Record: Points a domain or subdomain to a specific IP address.
- CNAME: Points one domain name or subdomain to another domain name.
- MX: Routes email for your domain to the correct mail server.
- TXT: Used for domain verification and email authentication, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
- SRV: Used for certain third-party services, such as VoIP, messaging, or service discovery tools.
The TTL value is set by default in the Zibster control panel.
STEP FOUR
Enter the required record details.
The information you enter will depend on the record type you selected. If you are adding a record for a third-party provider, copy the record details exactly as they provided them.
After entering the record details, click ADD DNS RECORD.
Your new DNS record will be added to the domain’s DNS zone.
Deleting a DNS Record
Deleting a DNS record can cause connected services to stop working. This may affect your website, email, domain verification, or third-party tools.
Deleted DNS records cannot be restored automatically. If a record is deleted by mistake, it must be manually re-added.
To delete a DNS record, go to DOMAINS and click MANAGE DNS next to the domain you want to update.
Find the DNS record you want to remove, then click DELETE next to that record.
Confirm the deletion to remove the record from your DNS zone.
Additional Options / Helpful Notes
Before adding, editing, or deleting DNS records, review the instructions from your email provider, domain verification service, or third-party platform carefully.
If you are updating email records, make sure you understand whether you need to change MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records. Incorrect email-related DNS records can prevent email from sending or receiving properly.
If your domain uses third-party name servers, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or another DNS provider, DNS records must be managed through that provider unless you switch the domain’s name servers to Zibster’s AWS Route 53 name servers.
If your domain is still using legacy name servers and you prefer not to upgrade to Route 53, contact Zibster Support with the DNS records you need added or updated.
